On Wednesday it was a trip to Pevensey Levels looking for dragonflies. There were many different species seen with the star being a female Brown Hawker egg laying in a ditch. Nigel was sitting in a much better position than I was and he took upward of 50 pictures. I only managed 4, all at a distance, but it was wonderful watching this insect at close range.
Female Common Darter.
A surprise was the amount of Wall Brown flying in the area as well as some very fresh Small Tortoiseshell. Two Clouded Yellow were nectaring on Fleabane. Really nice to see these migrant butterflies which were in pretty good condition. It was not meant to be a butterfly day but there were some good ones about!!
