Bufo Bufo.

One of the easiest Latin names to remember, Bufo bufo, the Common Toad. Several local country roads are now killing grounds for these amphibians as they return to their ponds and streams to mate. A quick look yesterday at one of my local ponds saw double figure numbers, mainly males waiting and hoping for some females to turn up soon. There were 3 or 4 females with males attached, and having to push other males away when they tried to join in!! Toad spawn was also very evident with long streams of it around the weeds.

Common Toad rising up from the depths. Not sure if he was trying to tell me something with his 2 fingers on both hands showing like that!!

A quick breath. The reflection of his eye on the surface is better than a polarising filter!!

  2. Stunning pictures! The hair stand up when on the road will be against big toad, who walks legs outstretched.
