A repeat of Monday with a visit to Shoreham harbour first to look for the Glaucous Gull. It was visible immediately this time although too far away for photographs. A great looking gull though and good to see.
It was then onto Widewater but the Goosanders had moved on. 2 distant Mergansers were diving constantly and with little else we amused ourselves by taking pictures of the local House Sparrows!
We then headed again for Beeding Brooks and immediately saw a Short Eared Owl hunting over the first field. It soon flew over the river but it wasn't long before either it, or another flew back and was hunting along the hedgerow between the first 2 fields. Another one was also seen as well as one Barn Owl which was once again mobbed by a Kestrel. On the way back to the car one of the Short Eared Owls flew across the field and settled in the grass. We managed to slowly creep nearer to it to get some poor record shots, by now the light was very poor.
Lovely owl pictures :)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a short eared owl before so am planning a trip to Beeding on Sunday. I have never been there though so do not know the area at all. Any advice on where to park, look for the owls etc?
Thanks
